A trailblazer leading the way for all women...
Q1: If you had five items to take with you on a deserted island what would they be?
Swiss Army Knife
Sunscreen
Desalination unit (a little portable boat units that turn salt water into fresh)
A favourite book
My dog
Q2: If there was any advice you could give your younger self what would it be?
Don’t be so damn hard on yourself! Saying that, I also believe everything you go through makes you the person you become. So maybe just, it’s all going to be so worth it!
Q3: What is your favourite body part and why?
I don’t have one. I love how strong and flexible I am. I love that I can go out on my own for a month in the ocean and have the balance and strength to handle the boat and all the slipped anchors, tender lifts and dives under the boat to detangle lines without fear. I care about what my body can do, not what it looks like doing it.
Q4: What gets you truly excited about life?
That’s a hard one, I get excited about many things! Mostly I guess it boils down to helping people achieve their goals and dreams. Including my own.
Q5: What song do you have to sing along to when you hear it?
I’m not really a singer to be honest, more a drummer! However if Bohemian Rhapsody comes on I have to give it a go. I was actually pulled over by the police once with my sister as we were singing along so hard they thought I was drunk driving!!! Hilarious!
Q6: What do you love most about being a woman?
Everything. There are a few things that annoy me though, especially how much harder it is for women in business to get loans, venture capital and equal pay. We have a long way to go towards true equality. I fight for that everyday.
Q7: If you had a warning label, what would yours say?
Underestimate me at your own risk.
Q8: What will be one takeaway from your talk at Leading Ladies on August 17?
I hope that just one person walks away feeling totally free of the status quo. That’s always my aim. They say if you can change one mind you have changed one hundred.
