Mother of all Mothers
If there was ever an example of a woman who has their finger in many pies in the Mackay region it is Danielle Jesser.
She’s an accomplished journalist and still writes historical news articles for the Daily Mercury, she’s edited books, she’s written a short history book about the Mackay region, with the hope to give the proceeds to her local Habana Progress Association.
Right now she’s immersed in a podcast projects about an extinct native bird.
She holds down the intense role leading the communications team at the Mackay Base Hospital (MHHS), where she has led them through pandemics, crisis and shared many beautiful stories too.
But Danielle’s biggest achievement is her family.
Her husband Scott and her children.
Despite the long hours required for professional crisis management, she is an incredible mother who has been flying back and forth to Brisbane with her daughter Julia for various tests and treatments related to many and varied health crises.
Her daughter Julia lives with spinal muscular atrophy before she even turned 1.
Danielle pushed out of her comfort zone in 2017 and decided to complete her very first triathlon. Mackay Triathlon Club’s Sonya Brazil Memorial Women’s Only Triathlon as well as the 60km Hand Heart Pocket River 2 Reef Ride .
With Danielle as the driving force, Julia has been afforded every opportunity. From a young age, Julia has had pet guinea pigs and Danielle has fostered her daughter’s interest in the ‘pigs’ by entering them into shows.
As well as grooming the pigs, she has also sewn costumes for them so they can be entered into the
Mackay and District Cavy Club shows.
Each week they take part in the Happy Paws program at the Mackay RSPCA together, where they get to play with some of the animals waiting to find new homes.
They are regular attendees at the Mackay Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association activities where they join in with seated volleyball, wheelchair basketball, bocce and even Zumba, proving that being involved in community is about ability and not disability.
In her spare time … You’ll find her with her neighbours supporting the Habana and District Progress Association, she’s a talented violinist and performs with the Mackay City Strings.
She is also a great friend to many and a community-minded person who always has time to help anyone and everyone.
