Woman Who Breaks the Mould 2025

Terrilee  is a woman who walks to the beat of her own drum. As a mother of four – her 19-year-old daughter and three sons aged 17, 15, and 14 – her role extends far beyond her own family.

She has become an 'unofficial' mum to many of her friends' children, offering support and guidance through everything from heartbreak to parent-child disagreements. Her home is always open, a place where kids gather and feel safe. For the past four years, Terri’lee  has managed her sons' football team, providing unwavering support and love. She is also a Youth Mental Health First Aider for Queensland Rugby League, volunteering her time with the Brothers Bulldogs Junior Rugby League club. Jo helps kids navigate their daily struggles, offering a listening ear, a hug, or a ride whenever needed. Her commitment to supporting young people is truly inspiring.

In Terri ‘Lee’s own words: "I strive to be a role model for young women, demonstrating resilience, kindness, and a belief in their own potential. I want them to see that it's possible to be both strong and compassionate, and that their dreams are worth pursuing. Empowerment to me means recognizing and embracing my own strength and worth, believing in myself, and uplifting the people around me. I strive to bring a spark of positivity to every interaction, no matter how small. Whether it's offering a word of appreciation to a Woolies worker, sharing an encouraging smile with a mum navigating a toddler meltdown, or connecting with a child whose enthusiasm might be testing their parent's patience, I believe that even small gestures can brighten someone's day."

Motherhood has profoundly shaped both Terri ‘Lee’s personal and professional life, forging within her a resilience and compassion she didn't know she possessed. Navigating her partner's two-year battle with severe depression while raising her children revealed an unforeseen strength. This experience, though incredibly challenging, became a cornerstone of her personality, influencing how she approaches difficulties in all aspects of her life. It also deepened her capacity for empathy, making her acutely aware of the needs and emotions of others. Terri’Lee’s firsthand understanding of the challenges children and families face propelled her towards a career focused on supporting others. She became a Youth Mental Health First Aider and a support worker in the disability industry, driven by her desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Balancing the demands of family, career, and her own well-being requires conscious effort and consistent nurturing. Terri’Lee finds solace and escape in the pages of books, particularly fantasy and, yes, even a bit of smut. Quality time with her partner and family, especially at their beach house, is essential for her well-being. Her girlfriends are her lifeline, providing daily support and reminding her that she is valued and loved. These friendships, combined with her love of reading and family time, are the cornerstones of her self-care routine, allowing her to navigate the challenges of motherhood, career, and life with grace, resilience, and a sense of joy.

“Life is a journey, not a destination. There will be bumps along the road, moments of doubt, and times when you feel like you're losing your way. When those moments come, and they will, give yourself a moment. Breathe. Acknowledge your feelings. And then, tomorrow, try again. You've got this. You are amazing. You are making a difference. And you are loved.
