She promotes women in non- traditional roles through ‘Kickass Women’. But it’s not just about employment platforms but also charity dinners and regular women’s events for networking.

As part of Kickass Women Jo also hosts a radio show where she speaks with a variety of inspiring guests who share advice on career changes.

Jo’s mantra is inspiring women here in the Greater Whitsunday region and abroad.

“First and foremost, I am a coal train driver who steps up to the footplate all the while reaching.

behind to pull other women up and onboard,” she said.

Jo said she has turned her advocacy into a reliable source of inspiration and a career resource toolkit of which is receiving overwhelmingly positive support and feedback, with more women from different locations, going on this transformational journey in a supportive, collaborative, and inclusive space.

As well as the founder of Kickass Women, Jo has also created events “Shades of Women” and

“Company of Women”.

Shades of Women is a fundraising event bringing ladies together to raise funds for Mackay Women’s

Services.

Company of Women is a networking lunch for ladies to listen to real local women about meaningful topics. It’s about support and connection. Kickass radio and social media are about connecting,

sharing, supporting, and lifting up all women.

Jo brings women together to show us that together we can support each other and make a

difference in our lives and the lives of others. Whether you are a female in a non-traditional role, or

a star in your field of expertise - Kickass Women is about being the best version of yourself, learning your strengths and embracing and supporting others rather than shooting down.

“Being a ‘woman’ is multifaceted, complex, and can often be unfair,” she said.

Jo wants us all know that being a woman is also about strength, mutual support, and love.

“If we encourage each other…we can unleash full force of our potential, achieve greater levels of self- sufficiency and fulfilment and create a more sustainable way of working.

“And that, together, we can do great things,” Jo said.
