As a devoted mother of five, business leader, and pillar of the Greater Whitsunday community, Lisa Versaci has turned a deeply challenging personal tragedy into a legacy of love, support and empowerment. What this woman has done, really boggles the mind – so strap in!
Three years ago, Lisa lost her husband in a truck accident – creating an overwhelming and horrific new reality for her, and their five children. Rather than succumbing to adversity, she somehow managed to transform her grief into a driving force for positive change. Together with her daughters, Lisa she rebuilt her business Cheeky Little Monkeys (CLM), a vibrant play centre that has become more than just a business; it is a sanctuary where parents can connect, children can play and families can build lifelong memories. CLM’s success was recognised in 2024 when it won the Mackay Region Chamber of Commerce’s 'Next Big Thing' award, a testament to Lisa’s vision and dedication.
Lisa’s impact extends beyond CLM. Recognising a gap in support for teenagers, she and her children established Teen Shed – a safe, welcoming space where young people can engage in recreational activities, foster friendships, and openly discuss life’s challenges. This initiative embodies Lisa’s deep commitment to nurturing the next generation, ensuring they feel seen, heard and supported.
Her entrepreneurial spirit is further showcased through Harper Bee, a boutique designed for teens and tweens. Inspired by her own daughters, Lisa created a space that celebrates individuality, self-expression and confidence. Through Harper Bee, she mentors young models, including her daughter Alexis, and provides opportunities for young talent to shine.
Lisa’s dedication to giving back is woven into every aspect of her life. She and her family volunteer with Orange Sky, providing laundry services, meals and companionship to those experiencing homelessness. She also creates employment opportunities for young people and mothers re-entering the workforce, fostering self-confidence and growth in those she mentors.
It’s easy to see the continual pattern in Lisa’s approach to life – she’s not just overcoming adversity for herself, she is showing her children how to turn their pain into positive impact. What a mother!!! Grief can so easily swallow someone up – to see someone stand up and use this as fuel for good is amazing. To see someone do that but bring their kids in on the picture – to show them how you can take whatever the world gives you to shape the life you want, it’s just fantastically inspiring.
In her own words: “Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. If they do, prove them wrong.” Thanks Lisa, we will – here’s to our Mother of All Mothers for 2025.
